Yes, this is what our patients normally share after a Dental Hygiene appointment at Al Dana Dental Center.
Start this journey with our Dental Hygienists, as they walk you through the tools and techniques they have to help you heal your mouth, body, and staying healthy. It does indeed start in the mouth. Dental Hygienists really are first responders! There is so much more we can do in order to stay healthy.
Knowledge is power: let's find out more
Everything starts in the mouth. In order to be healthy, we must start at the top. Dental disease is a symptom of a bigger, possibly silent but trembling sleeping giant of a problem that you cannot ignore.
Why do we need a professional teeth cleaning?
Even with the very best everyday oral care at home, bacteria tends to build up on the teeth in a sticky film called dental plaque. The longer this bacteria stays on your teeth, the more harm it will do to it. It uses the sugars from the food and drinks you consume and creates an acid which can slowly dissolve tooth enamel.
If enough enamel is eaten away, you can end up with a cavity or hole in the tooth. You may not even know a cavity is present until it is deep enough that the nerve becomes irritated. By that time it is a much more costly issue to treat. You may have heard of root canal treatment.
The bacteria also cause inflammation of the gum tissue. Gums turn red and may swell and bleed easily. This is referred to as gingivitis.
If not cleaned off, the bacteria can eventually harden into a solid crust called tartar or calculus. The inflammation can then begin to affect the gum attachment to the tooth and eventually the bone holding the tooth in place.
This is called gum disease or periodontitis and can lead to tooth loss. Periodontitis has also been linked to heart disease, dementia, and stroke.
Our experts will walk you through the tools and techniques they use to help you heal your mouth, body, and stay healthy.

The revolutionary Airflow technique used nowadays by professionals allows us to remove biofilm and stains from teeth using kinetic energy.
This method uses a steady stream of air, warm water and delicate powders to clean the teeth, implants, and soft tissue wholly and kindly. During this process, we are able to properly eliminate the bacteria and other microorganisms that form the biofilm.
The Airflow Master PiezonĀ® uses a no-pain technology that promises a pleasant cleaning, every time. This technique is much more comfortable than traditional methods, which has been demonstrated to be ideal for people with highly sensitive teeth.
The advantages of the Airflow technique are countless
- Removes both sub-gingival and supra-gingival biofilm, which remain responsible for tooth decay, gingivitis, periodontitis, peri-implant mucositis, and peri-implantitis
- The process is faster, deeper and more gentle than traditional polishing with paste and rubber cups, even in areas that are hard to reach
- It is also ideal for interdental cleaning of misaligned and crooked teeth
- Apart from removing stains, Airflow can be used for cleaning orthodontic fixed appliances, dentures and implants. The specially formulated powder formula removes stains with ease, all without damaging the soft tissue or implant
Dental associations around the world advise us to visit the dentist every 6 months, or at least once a year. These visits are crucial to maintain a healthy smile, as dentists and hygienists clean the teeth in depth, minimizing the risk of periodontal disease, cavities and tartar accumulation.
